The Jackson Memorial Library celebrates the creativity and imagination of local artists.
In its mission to bring together fine art and people of all ages, our library provides exhibition space for the works of community artists as well as educational programs in the arts.
Currently On Display: Genesis: The Birth of a Painting: Art of Sandra M. Dickson
Working mainly in graphite, oils, and watercolor, Sandra M. Dickson exhibits her work locally at the Lupine Gallery on Monhegan in the summer and at her Glenmere Gallery in Port Clyde as weather permits. Dickson says, "I've wanted to do a presentation like this for a long time, to show how paintings begin not as finished artwork framed and hanging on the wall, but as ideas that spark the artist's imagination and the desire to express what they see, think, and feel." Sandra has lived in Port Clyde since 1982.
Coming in May: Photographs by Steve Cartwright
Explore Tenants Harbor and the surrounding area through the eyes of local resident Steve Cartwright. A retired journalist, Steve says he enjoys taking photos close to home, of the places he watches through the seasons and the years.
"I see photography as painting with light, as a way to connect with the natural environment that both sustains and inspires us," he says.
Steve serves on the St. George select board and the Millay House board in Rockland, and is the board president of Blueberry Cove and Tanglewood camps.
Jackson Memorial Library serves the St. George community in Mid Coast Maine by providing information, materials, services and programs to all ages for their education, enrichment and personal enjoyment. The Library provides a welcoming, comfortable public space for social interaction, civic engagement and quiet study.
