Internet and Computer Use

Internet use at the Library is free and high speed WiFi is available. If others are waiting, please limit your use of the library's laptops to 30 minutes. 

Patrons are expected to make appropriate use of the equipment and to show consideration for others. The use of this service is a privilege, and inappropriate use may result in forfeiture of the privilege.

The staff may provide limited assistance for basic computer navigation. The library does not offer e-mail accounts though we are happy to help you set up your own email account. More in depth assistance is available during Tech Time, every Thursday from 4:00-5:00pm.

Please check with the librarian before attempting to download anything to the computer. Software installations are generally not allowed, but may be granted an exception based on the librarian's opinion.

The Library has no control over the information accessed through the Internet, and cannot be held responsible for the quality, accuracy, currency or appropriateness of any information found via the Internet.

ETHICAL USE
The Library computer and Internet access may be used for legal and ethical purposes only. Unacceptable use includes, but is not limited to: harassment of other users; tampering with or damaging the library data, software, or equipment; and unauthorized copying of copyright-protected or licensed material.

CHILDREN
Restriction of a child's access is the responsibility of his or her parent or guardian. Children 9 and under must be accompanied by an adult when using the computer.

Printing and Copying

PRINTING AND COPYING
Printer and copier access is available during regular library hours. The charge is $.20 per page black and white, $.50 per page color.

Documents may also be scanned and sent to email at no charge. However, the library’s technology for this is time-consuming, so we ask visitors to limit their scan-to-email requests to no more than 10 pages. Thanks for your understanding.

Hot Spots

Hot spots are mobile devices that enable users to connect smart phones, laptops, tablets and other wi-fi enabled devices to the internet. We have 10 currently in our system. Our hot spots use the Verizon network and work in most areas of town, except for Boulder Hill.

Checkouts are allowed for active library card holders 18 years or older, for 1 week at a time. Return at the Circulation Desk or drop off the device in one of our drop boxes. If you do not return the device, or if you lose or damage it, you will be charged a replacement fee of $50 and will be unable to check out items until the fee is paid or device is returned in good working order.

We reserve the right to disconnect service to any device if we suspect misuse or is more than 2 weeks over due with no contact.

Holds may be placed on one device at a time.

How to use your HotSpot:

• Unplug Hot Spot when not in use or fully charged so as not to overheat the battery. 

• Turn off Hot Spot when not in use to prevent unknown data drain. 

• You can connect up to 5 devices at a time to the hotspot. 

• One hotspot is permitted per household.

• Each box should have 1 of each of the following: Hot Spot, Power Cord, USB wall plug.

• Data cycles renew on the 11th of each month. Streaming, downloading or uploading images uses more data than email and surfing the web. If you notice the device is very slow, it may be due to being “over” its data allotment. Unfortunately, there is nothing we can do to fix this. Hot Spots have 15 GB of data on full speed, and then slows significantly. Zoom is a struggle after 15 GB.
